About Our Pastor

Servant Dr. Edward Daniel Harper is the full-time pastor of the Macedonia
Baptist Church in Lakewood, NJ. He is also the Moderator of the Seacoast
Missionary Baptist Association. He has previously served in the roles of
full-time associate pastor, hospice chaplain, adjunct psychology professor,
adjunct English professor, social/community activist, and business
executive. He energetically dedicates and commits his life to the caring
for the needs of others. His gospel and educational ministries identify
with Christian theology by taking time to be at places where the needs and
conditions of people (physically, mentally and spiritually) are the most
critical. Dr. Harper believes that where the need is the deepest, the
situation the most immediate, and the pain the sharpest is precisely an
opportunity for him to reach out and touch!
He is originally from Marion,
Alabama. He moved to New Jersey with his wife after spending some years in
four other states. Within these years, Dr. Harper earned a Bachelor of
Business Administration degree with a concentration in marketing at the
University of Detroit. It was also at the University of Detroit where he
earned a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling. His Master of
Divinity degree was earned at Princeton Theological Seminary. Further, he
earned both the Master of Arts and his Doctorate with a concentration in
Adult and Higher Education at Columbia University.
Dr. Harper actively serves in
community organizations. He is the CEO, founder and executive director of
the 501-C-3 nonprofit corporation that is known as Macedonia Family Life
Community Complex, Inc. Further, he is a Police Chaplain for the City of
Lakewood Police Department. Also, he is a Board member of Caregivers of
Central Jersey, Inc. and a General Board member of Monmouth Bible Institute.
He has served as a Board member of University Heights Science Park in Newark
and the Memorial Society of Essex in Montclair. He has also served as a
committee member of Summit 2000 in Summit. He is a former Board member of
the Institutional Review Board at the University of Medicine & Dentistry;
Campus Christian Foundation; and Metropolitan Ecumenical Ministry in
Newark. He has served as a Trustee Board member of Ocean County United Way.
Dr. Harper is the former State
Secretary of ABCNJ Council and for the Executive Committee. Further, he is
a former member of the Permanent Council within the Seacoast Association and
a life member of both the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Continuously involving himself
with organizations that are helping to improve society, Dr. Harper has
received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award and has been listed in
Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
He has led missionary groups or
served on missionary tours to places such as Senegal & The Gambia, Africa;
Havana & Guantanamo, Cuba; Jerusalem, Israel; Guyana, South America; and
Jamaica, West Indies. |
