About Our Pastor

Servant Dr. Edward Daniel Harper is the full-time pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Lakewood, NJ.  He is also the Moderator of the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association. He has previously served in the roles of full-time associate pastor, hospice chaplain, adjunct psychology professor, adjunct English professor, social/community activist, and business executive.  He energetically dedicates and commits his life to the caring for the needs of others.  His gospel and educational ministries identify with Christian theology by taking time to be at places where the needs and conditions of people (physically, mentally and spiritually) are the most critical.  Dr. Harper believes that where the need is the deepest, the situation the most immediate, and the pain the sharpest is precisely an opportunity for him to reach out and touch!

He is originally from Marion, Alabama.  He moved to New Jersey with his wife after spending some years in four other states.  Within these years, Dr. Harper earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in marketing at the University of Detroit.  It was also at the University of Detroit where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling.  His Master of Divinity degree was earned at Princeton Theological Seminary.  Further, he earned both the Master of Arts and his Doctorate with a concentration in Adult and Higher Education at Columbia University.

Dr. Harper actively serves in community organizations. He is the CEO, founder and executive director of the 501-C-3 nonprofit corporation that is known as Macedonia Family Life Community Complex, Inc. Further, he is a Police Chaplain for the City of Lakewood Police Department. Also, he is a Board member of Caregivers of Central Jersey, Inc. and a General Board member of Monmouth Bible Institute. He has served as a Board member of University Heights Science Park in Newark and the Memorial Society of Essex in Montclair.  He has also served as a committee member of Summit 2000 in Summit.  He is a former Board member of the Institutional Review Board at the University of Medicine & Dentistry; Campus Christian Foundation; and Metropolitan Ecumenical Ministry in Newark.  He has served as a Trustee Board member of Ocean County United Way.

Dr. Harper is the former State Secretary of ABCNJ Council and for the Executive Committee.  Further, he is a former member of the Permanent Council within the Seacoast Association and a life member of both the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Continuously involving himself with organizations that are helping to improve society, Dr. Harper has received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award and has been listed in Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.

He has led missionary groups or served on missionary tours to places such as Senegal & The Gambia, Africa; Havana & Guantanamo, Cuba; Jerusalem, Israel; Guyana, South America; and Jamaica, West Indies.
